1st Boat - Charleston Inlets and Lakes

As the title states I am looking to buy my first boat. I live right outside of Charleston, SC so most of my sailing will be on the lakes and rivers as well as the harbor and close to shore. I learned to sail on a J/24 and really like the stability of that boat. My main concerns are :

1. Stability
2. Ease of single or shorthanded sailing
3. Mostly for daysailing or the occassional weekend.
4. Ease of sailing. I am a new sailior looking for something not very complex.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1st Boat - Charleston Inlets and Lakes

I was in the same situation as you and ended up buying a Cal 25. Great beginner''s boat, IMO. Still probably small enough to learn on but big enough to spend a weekend on. The boat''s stability has saved my inexperienced as? on at least 1 occasion. On the downside, it has about a 5 ft draft, which could be problematic in the Charleston area.

Good luck and have fun.
