Yard Insurance

What do "normal" people do for insurance if they buy a boat and keep it in a yard for say 6 months to do a refurb. (yards in Florida) Do they get regular boat insurance or could they get regular homeowners insurance like it was a mobile home for the time it was on the hard? Thanks, JC (you guy’s got to love these stupid newbie questions

Probably need to show proof of the boat policy. Some homeowners policies may cover small boats stored in the garage or near the home.

Check with an insurance agent who is familiar with marine insurance, but normally a boat that''s laid up on shore for storage or repairs will switch from regular coverage to "port risk", which is a lot cheaper.

Get "port restricted'' insurance. Covers liability, fire, etc. but limits NO travel or movement on the water, etc. ... much cheaper.
