kayaks, snipes, and cartop cruising

Hi everyone,

So I now live up by the Sacramento Delta, and have been considering a boat that I can cartop, and use for weekends at the lake, cruising the delta, and something I could use for some coastal cruising, day tripping between beach camping.

I''ve been reading "3 Years In A 12 Foot Boat" and while the "Squeak" class vestle sounds fun, it sounds like the worst of both worlds.

whatever it is, I''d like to build it myself.

I''ve been looking at a CLC kayak with a sailing rig, eitheir their outrigger kit, or the easy rider rig ( http://www.easyriderkayaks.com/reaching_kayaks.htm )

Or

perhaps a snipe, which is a little large for cartoppign, but looks like it would be a blast to sail, and still be fine for holding a backpack, beachable, and they''re beautifull boats.

Any other suggestions?

A nicly made CLC will be a constant pain in the azz to keep from damage. For rocky areas like that get a poly kayak instead. My current choice for camp cruising is a 14''6" Perception Carolina. My choice for paddling and making distance is the now out of production Wildernes Systems 15''8"Alto.
