hunter 37c sloop???

hi all. have a couple of questions about a hunter 37c. i went to look at one slipped at lake mead. seems very solid. boat has been well kept. new port lights. sails and standing rigging three years old. new interior cushion, canvas.

question: the boat has been converted to a sloop. the owner has put a roller furler on the jib with a huge genoa. not sure how big. is this a good thing?? i dont know much about stresses on rigging, chain plates etc, so i''m wondering if this setup is good for the boat?? wouldnt a split rig spread out the loads better?? could it have already damaged something i cant see??

other than that , it is in good to very good condition. have crawled around it quite a bit, looks good. anyway, i''m getting pretty serious about this old gal but would like some input on the modified rigging. thanks for your time. regards, jeff

hunter 37c sloop???

I know a couple of people who have this boat and like it. One of them has removed the staysail stay and races it as a sloop including some distance races on L Mich. He has no problems with the rig - though I don''t think he did anymore than disconnect the stay and store it back on his mast. I beleive he can reconnect it quickly and easily under way.

hunter 37c sloop???

Hi Jeff - I am also looking at and serious about getting a H37C. I am wondering did you decided against an offer? If so, was there something about the H37C design, or did you find something about this particular boat that caused you concern. Overall I am convinced they are a good bluewater cruiser .... but every boat presents it''s own problems.
