I want to buy a boat next year. It needs to be able to be sailed by one person but I''d also like to take one or two people. I''ve been looking at a dinghy style boat but I don''t really know what''s good and what''s not. I really would appreciate any idea''s

To answer your question it would be helpful to know where you would like to sail the boat that you will be buying. It would also be helpful to know whether you would like to race or perhaps overnight with the boat.

I''m going to sail it on lakes and maybe some calm bays. I don''t know if I''d like to race or not but may I would.
I would not like a boat with a cabin. That''s too big.

Although the MacGregor 26 has a cabin, they''re a damn fine sailing vessel.

Hannah, is there any kind of yacht club or sailing club on the body of water where you intend to do most of your sailing? If so, what kind of boats are they sailing? Even if you don''t intend to race, I would start there.

In the 14'' category, the Sunfish and the Laser are both boats that have been hugely popular and successful the world over. They are generally intended to be sailed by one person, but can take two. Three would be pushing it.

There is not a yacht club or sailing club. The lake is only about 2 miles long and mostly there are motor boats(beastly things). I''m definatly interested in the Laser but I''m not sure.
