Buying in the Med

We''re thinking of buying a used 36-38''sail boat, probably not more than five-years old, in the Med for two- to three-years of cruising.

Does anyone have recommendations as to where, time of year, experiences, do (other than the obvious survey), don''t, URLs or references, etc.

It''s a big topic and this is intended as an overview for the purpose of identifying some of the issues. If you are buying a European boat (most have VAT built into their price) with U.S. dollars (currently weak in Europe), you''ll find most boats to be relatively expensive.
