Bayfield 40

I have a friend who is looking for a cruising boat and we happened on a Bayfield 40 the other day.
Does anyone have any knowledge of them? They are a beautiful boat with an interesting interior lay-out. With the large head forward and open salon, it looked live-aboard friendly. My initial concern was venelation in the aft berths.
Any thoughts would be welcome before he looks further into this boat.

I note that John Neal (Mahina expeditions ) lists the Bayfield as a bluewater capable boat. Never been on a Bayfield 40 tho. I think Seagypsy woman is on a smaller Bayfield but I could be wrong.

In general Bayfields are well respected in this area (North east Atlantic)

Bayfield owners are fiercely loyal. IMO, they are very well built, Canadian designed, heavy displacement boats with a very salty, traditional hull design. Gozzard designed/built them prior to going out on his own. I think that they are beautiful - but have never personally sailed one.
