Watkin''''s 27 vs. Catalina or Hunter

Jerica:

The Watkins you''re looking at, tho'' no longer made, probably fits very closely with Catalinas & Hunters of that era. Watkins boats were built near here (Clearwater FL, I believe...) and were clearly ''price boats'' - boats built to a price target dictated in turn by the competition. They were generally beamy, shallow (due to the waters on FL''s west coast), designs with limited sailing performance. In this last regard, Catalinas probably have an edge unless you buy a shallow draft/lower rig model in which case it would be comparable.

Try finding Watkins owners here or a member website; owners that are living with this now older boat are probably your best source of info on problem areas.
