Cal 33

I've read the reviews elsewhere on Sailnet from Cal 33 owners but sure would appreciate any additional thoughts from people experienced with this boat. I'm considering a late model Cal 33. All pros and cons and advice on what to look for much appreciated.
Thanks.

Cal 33

I bought my first boat, a 1988 Cal 33 in Dec 2002 on the hard from Michigan.
Outfitted it for cruising and did a trip thru the Great Lakes,Erie canal then down the Hudson and to Florida. Crossed over thru the ahamas,Dominican Republic then down the Caribbean Island chain and wintered inTrinidad. I found it to be a perfect boat for this trip. We are now in New Bern,NC sadly the boat is up for sale. We bought a house and after playing for almost 3 years its time to work. We have no time to sail. But we have a lot of great memories.

I found it very roomy yet sea worthy. I did replace the stem head anchor roller with a stainless steel one. You couldn't hold 2 anchors on the original cast aluminum one. I did remove the stern rail and had altered for stern rail seats. Primarly the Cal 33 was a good club racer but I found it to be great for the islands. The keel stepped mast is properly done. The later Cals have a double speader. I like that. We cruised for 2 years and lived aboard for 9 months. A very sound boat! Any questions you can email me at clcjr54@hotmail.com
