Freedom

Hello all,
Reading Reuel Parker has peaked my interest in cat rigs. Would any of you consider the Freedom 28 a suitable design for extended offshore sailing? I've been looking for hours, but can't find a picture or lines drawing of the hull below the waterline. I'd love to hear from any Freedom owners out there.

Nope.

We owned a Freedom 40 for 8 years. It had much to recommend it. We increased the sail area from 770 sq ft to 880 sq feet and went to full battens.

The boat does not go to weather worth a darn in head seas. Many times we had to wear ship or start the engine to push the bow through a tack. This is with a 20000 lb boat that had considerable mometum when sailing. The 28 is a much lighter boat with less proportionate sail area.

We had 20 years of sailing under our belt before this boat -- including extended open water sailing. We sold the Freedom because we would not trust it offshore.

Very succinct. Thank you for sharing your experience; yours has been the sole critical voice so far, but also the most experienced. Thank you very much.
