Buying a boat--handling the pesky details

So you''ve found the boat of your dreams, you''re ready to make an offer--now what? What are the steps that would typically be required to make her yours?

Is there a place on the web (or elsewhere) to find sample purchase contracts, including some text about a satisfactory survey and seatrial?

How "formal" is the process (I suppose it depends on whether you''re buying from a broker or private party)?

How negotiable are asking prices?

You can (hopefully) see where I''m going with this: there is ton of very valuable information about boats on this message board, but I would appreciate your insight on what it takes to finally make the purchase happen. Thanks!!!

Barbara

I would be happy to email you a modified copy of the yacht purchase agreement that I used when I sold my boat. I modified it from the agreement that was put together by the broker that I originally bought it through. Then I ran it by a good friend that is a lawyer that said it looked ok--this is always a good idea.
Also, prices are always negotiable!! Start low, you just might get a good deal.
