Inspect boats in the winter

Okay so I'm wondering if anyone with experience can help me out with this. I've read extensively on what to look for before paying for a survey and as I'm starting to shop for my first boat i couldnt help but think the weather is going to affect certain things such as when I'm looking for soft spots or moisture in the deck is it going to be more difficult or impossible during winter months when the boat is stored outside in the cold? If the water trapped in the core freezes won't it still feel/sound solid when I step on it or tap it or is it going to still be apparent that there is rot or delamination in there? I'd appreciate any insight!

A moiure meter wll no properly function on ice but a delaminated fiberglass should give the emty sound. It is not likely that water will fill all the cavities and will adhere when frozen.

Is that your website boatpoker? I've read a lot on there and its really helpful, wish I could have found that particular article before posting, I probably wouldn't have bothered here. I figured the water in the deck would freeze over the winter and since it would make inspecting the deck/hull more difficult. I guess I'll have to look at the boats other systems. How does buying a boat in the winter typically go? Do you agree on a price pending a survey in the spring?
