Considering this boat along with a catalina 27 looking for input. Can these boat be used in a crossing from florida to the Bahamas or are they both strictly coastal cruisers?

I would not think of a Catalina 27 as a good boat to cross over to the Bahamas on. These are really lightly built boats and just are not made for that kind of usage.

The C&C 29 is a nice boat. Certainly better built and substanially faster than the Catalina 27 or 30. While still not my first choice to for this kind of thing if you are an experienced sailor it should be fine.

I really am not sure whether either of these boats have adequate tankage for that kind of distance cruising but I understand that it is easier to get fuel and water over in the Bahamas than it used to be.

Regards
Jeff
