1988 Cal 33 for sale. Cost to transport Boat East coast to west coast
Hello. I have a 1988 Cal 33 for sale. A potential Buyer asked me for a ballpark price to have it transported from NC to San Diego. Any ideas? email clcjr54@hotmail.com
Yes. Advise the potential buyer to call one or two transportation companies and inquire about the cost and availability of their services. one name I know from personal experience is http://www.brownellsystems.com/ . The buyer may want to start with a company located in NC or CA so he/she may hit on a one-way haul which would significantly lessen the cost.
You might tell the buyer what the hauling/mast removal expenses are at the local yard, but even here, pass ont eh contact info so they can do their own homework - you don't want to be quoted on anything that will become their costs.
Too bad on selling the Cal 33, that's a pretty neat boat.
PS - you will never get a deal out of this unless the buyer thinks you are selling the boat at a price sufficiently below market so you end up covering the transportation cost. The Cal 33 is not a hard-to-find boat.
Sailingfool makes a very good point. Cal 33's are fairly common still, and the buyer is unlikely to buy if he has to pay market price for the boat, and pay for the cost of shipping the boat cross country.
