I owned an O'Day 25 for nine years. Comfortable, fun, easy to care for. Sailing head to head vs. Catalina 25's, I found that they were just a bit faster.

Save 1/4 to 1/3 of your budget for repairs, upgrades and safety gear.

Have fun!

I went to the Oakland boat show today and saw the MacGregor 26M (the only sailboat NOT in the water). Though the interior is spare, with the 50hp outboard, I really like the power/sail performance. However, I'm ultimately interested in stepping up to a 37'-45' boat and selling a used boat appears to be difficult. As a consequence, I'm looking for a "throw away" boat for under $10k. Can anyone recommend a boat with characteristics similar to the Mac in my price range?

Is it possible to get a similarly equipped Catalina, Ranger, or some other boat of similar size, quality and performance in the $10 range?
