To buy or not to buy a Catalina 36MKII ?

We currently have a Hunter 240 which we consider to be strictly a daysailor. We have been sailing on local lakes only, and now we are thinking of purchasing a cruiser/offshore for Florida waters.
We have been considering the Catalina 36MKII for all our cruising needs. You get a lot of boat for the price. Affordability is important, but so is performance, handling and comfort on and below deck. We would be coastal cruising most of the time with some occasional offshore passage. What comments and information and personal experiences anyone can tell us about this boat is appreciated. Also, what is the big difference between the Catalina 36 and 36MKII ? Thankyou, Ernie & Jo.

This subject is seriously old coffee. Go back 17 topics on this message board and read the 33 threads (comments) that were made about the C36.

You wouldn''t be Ernie and Jo Hoops would you?? We have just finished our first season on our 36 MK II and have been agreeably surprised by the lack of problems and the sailing performance. Livability is unequaled (We live aboard for 4 weeks at a time). Handling (autostream feathering prop) is very good. Our sailing has been on Lake Michigan.
