Hello
with the engine, it is difficult to make more than 5.5 knots with the westerbeke 40 horses with no winds on the nose. More than that, the engine wanted to overheat. The problem should be the water pumd is a little too small.
But under sail, this boat is magic. She goes on the water on a very gentle way. But we have to reef rapidly, then the speed doesn't decrease. We can easyly have 7.6 knots and more. We did already about 9 knots. With winds, this boat is like a like boat. She is oversailed. It's the reason tha we have to reef rapidly. With light winds, if you put large sails, you can beat all small boats. With two reefs, the boat is perfect if there is a lot of wind.
We sailed on Lake Champlain, St-Lawrence river, Baie des Chaleurs in Gaspesia, Qc, in Maritime provinces of Canada. We are presently in Nova Scotia and we are waiting for a window weather to cross de Gulf of Maine to reach Bar Harbor.
Is this answered to your questions?
