Ericson 41

What are you thoughts on the Ericson 41. I am having problems finding information on this boat. Would like to know if anyone has any experience with it. She was built in 1969, I believe there may be another 41 built later but a very different design.

Thanks in advence.

John

Try looking through the specs and docs (if you haven't already) at:

www.ericsonyachts.org

There is a bulletin board also to post questions. Good luck!

I'm an owner of an Ericson 41, named Dame des mers. I live in Montrťal. The boat is in Nova Scotia. What are your questions about 41?

Dear Damedesmers,

What type of sailing and motoring speeds are you getting with your Ericson? I am looking for on of these on the East Coast.

Kind regards,
Bob

Ericson 41

Hello

with the engine, it is difficult to make more than 5.5 knots with the westerbeke 40 horses with no winds on the nose. More than that, the engine wanted to overheat. The problem should be the water pumd is a little too small.

But under sail, this boat is magic. She goes on the water on a very gentle way. But we have to reef rapidly, then the speed doesn't decrease. We can easyly have 7.6 knots and more. We did already about 9 knots. With winds, this boat is like a like boat. She is oversailed. It's the reason tha we have to reef rapidly. With light winds, if you put large sails, you can beat all small boats. With two reefs, the boat is perfect if there is a lot of wind.

We sailed on Lake Champlain, St-Lawrence river, Baie des Chaleurs in Gaspesia, Qc, in Maritime provinces of Canada. We are presently in Nova Scotia and we are waiting for a window weather to cross de Gulf of Maine to reach Bar Harbor.

Is this answered to your questions?

Thanks for the feedback Denis. I am curios if you think a larger prop or more efficient prop setup could be a speed improvement under motor?

Bob
