How old is too old?

Looking at a 1973 Allied Mistress 39 ... 6 year old standing & running rigging ... Is a '73 to old? What should on look out for on a boat this old?

Thanks
Lawson

Lawson..the good news is that these were solidly built go anywhere boats and remain so with decent care. Nevertheless, everything needs to be surveyed on a 33 year old boat. I'd be focused on engine, rigging is fairly new but tangs/chainplates may be old and also check any deck delamination. Boat is likely to have a cobbled together wiring system so that is worth a close look as well.
good luck!

Also worth looking at where the chainplates attach to the hull.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

And you probably have blisters and a whole bunch of other problems that we don't want to know about.
