Customs & sales tax

Hello all.

I am considering buying a boat in Mexico. My question is has anyone else done this and are there any pitfalls to watch out for? The broker is very helpfull and seems quite knowledgable about the process. to add to the complexity I am canadian. There is no sales tax in the province I live in , I don't intend to take the boat back to canada anytime soon so GST should not apply. The boat was originally built in taiwan.

Does duty and Gst decrease with the amount of time the boat stays out of Canada ?
