Tough to find a better built 27 footer anywhere. Well built, good looking boat that is no racer but not a slouch either and will stand up to weather.

Thanks for the comments. This is my first boat and I am at a loss on which one to go with. First it was a Watkins 27 then a pearson 27 then a catalina 27. It is very confusing as I do not want to make a mistake on my first boat. I've waited too long for this.

Alan... Where & how do you intend to sail your new boat? I owned a Cat27 long ago and we loved it for bay/sound sailing and the Watkins and Pearsons are all good boats too so it sounds like you're doing your homework. I will say that I think the Compaq is head and shoulders over the others but the others may be perfectly suitable for your needs. B SURE TO GET A SURVEY!

Thanks for your posting. I plan to dock the boat in Philadelphia and sail on the river mainly in season one. My goal is to make it to the Chesapeake bay and explore. I can sail extended days if I desire.

I really want a sturdy boat that will handle all my mistakes. I will also be single handling it mainly.

Alan...the boats are all quite capable of handling that kind of sailing. One thing to consider is that you will be in an area with fairly strong currents and a good engine is a necessity. It is my experience that sailboat surveyors don't know much about engines so once you are at the survey stage...suggest you get a diesel mechanic to go over the engine as that can really be an expensive thing to replace.
