Thumbs up Seeking suggestions for small cruiser

Hi All,
I am ready to go to sea and I am considering a purchase of small cruiser for coastal/offshore sailing, 24-28 feet in length for 3-4 crew.
Can anyone suggest any makes of solid boats worth researching?
Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

In doing my own research over the past couple of years, I have found the following review sites to be most helpful. the majority of the views have been written by one man Jack Hornor, who was a licensed boat surveyor. I have come to respect his reviews quite a bit.

Mariner2016, can you provide more details? The answer to this question can be seriously influenced by cruising region, experience, budget amongst other factors.

Re: Seeking suggestions for small cruiser

Hey,

What is your budget? Do you prefer wheel, tiller or don't care? How far offshore - like sailing through the night for 2-3 days or day hops for 8-10 hours a day? Do you want / need hot water, refrigeration, big galley, etc?

Good luck,
Barry

Hi Barry,
Budged under $20K, wheel preferred, possible several days at sea at the time, fair distance away from the coast,
hot water - don't care,
refrigeration - don't care, ice box is fine
big galley - don't care, 2-burner propane stove will do
on-board diesel engine preferred
luxuries not that important, I am more concern about seaworthiness, hull strength etc.
Thanks.

Re: Seeking suggestions for small cruiser

OK

With an under 20K budget I would be looking at boats like Sabre 28, Tartan 28-30. I would not go smaller than 27' and would recommend going to a 30' boat. It will be difficult to carry gear and supplies for 4 guys for several days at sea.
Some other boats to consider
Cape Dory
C&C 29 or 30
Pearson 303 but not 30

And a few others.

You really should look at the Catalina 30 and see if that will work for you. There are about a million of them out there and they have lots of space and sail OK.

Good luck,
Barry

Re: Seeking suggestions for small cruiser

A 24'-28' boat will be really small if you have 4 people on board.

But if you are sure, here is a nice one in Vermont.

While your shopping, be sure to look at the Ericsons . . . great build quality, nice interiors, good looking . . and of course they come in all sizes . .
