Blisters

I looked at an 84 Catalina 27 today and the broker informed me that this past summer the owner had the boat hauled and surveyed, which resulted in 5 blisters found. The owners then had them ground out and filled. The broker told me all was well now, and if I make an offer I will have a survey done. But I wonder, is this indicative of a larger problem, or more blisters in the future at least? Or is it normal for a boat of this age?

If true, "5" blisters on an untreated 22 yr old boat is excellent news, and is not cause for concern. It is abnormal only in there were so few blisters presenting.

Are blisters in your future? Undoubtedly. But it need not be a catastrophe and good upkeep can minimize the problems.

3 years ago I bought a '93 Catalina 270, on survey 5 blisters were found & repaired, just hauled again & there were no new blisters nor any problems with those repaired.
