Thoughts on Hylas 46 Please

Looking to purchase 1995 Hylas 46. It has been in charter and mast has been cut down 18" by a prof. rigger after hitting a bridge and bending mast head. Thoughts on boat performance and reduced mast height please. Mainsail unchanged Thanks.

The Hylas 46 is a GREAT boat. I charted one twice in the BVI's and it is a real bluewater boat that sails well and is most comfortable. The chief concern I would have is NOT the reduced mast height or the necessity of recutting the mainsail as she is a fast boat and the 18" won't matter too much in cruising...and you should get a nice reduction in price.
The real concern is that bridges that bend masts can put an awful lot of stress on the WHOLE boatand rig and a very close survey of the chainplate and rig and hull integrity is a must.

I really don't know why you insist on asking the same question over and over again. The previous thread was a duplicate thread with basically the same question...as is this one. If you don't like the answers you're getting, which are pretty on-target—stop asking the damn question.

BTW, it is against Sailnet's user policy to have two logins...and somehow I seriously doubt that you and dougship of the previously posted threads are different people... given the similarity in user handles and specificity of the subject involved.

The chances of the poster and dougship from the original thread about a Hylas 46 that had a mast shortened due to hitting something being different people is pretty astronomically small... especially when the new poster's username is dougshipl...one letter added to dougship. UGH...
