Question SJ21 vs Montego-19

I know everyone hates these type of threads, but I'm having trouble finding much info on the Montego (aside from keel slop/rust -- the SJ21 gets sparkling reviews). Hoping somebody out there can say with certainty they'd favour one over the other.

My only sailing experience to this point has been in a canoe. I designed & rigged it, so hopefully we can skip the "get some lessons" routine. I'm a stubborn SOB, else I'd be shopping for a speedboat.

I live in Northern Kentucky, so 95% of sailing will be done on 5K'ish acre lakes surrounded by hills & trees. Winds average 10mph on a good day.

The cabin would only be used for overnighting once in a great while. Mostly interested in fair weather afternoons. Stability is big, want to invite elderly parents out on nice days.

The SJ21 has much more usable foredeck, my main reason for leaning towards it. Cockpit is probably one butt bigger too.

Thank you for any advice, sincerely.

Not familar with the Montego, but the San Juan is a well built boat. If they sail anything like the 24's, then they should do well for you.

Own and sailed a SJ21. Fast, light weight, well built, some deck issues but nothing major.I was not as much in love with it as SJ21 owners tend to be but it took care of me.
