Help picking a boat
My wife and I are looking for a sailboat for our family. The issues that we have to work with are making it somewhat difficult. We have three children so the boat should have five berths. We also have a 45 ft. bridge to deal with, so a mast height of 44ft or less is needed. We have about $20K to spend. We looked at a Bristol 29.9 and liked what we saw but they are more than $20k. A Morgan 34 would also work but the ones that we have looked at have been in sorry shape. We like classic lines. Given the large amount of expertise that this group represents we are hoping that someone will come up with some good suggestions.

Tartan 30? Affordable and great boats.

An Ericson 29
might be a good choice. The Dufour 27
is another possible choice. The Grampian 30
is another. The Hunter 33 Cherubini
, Morgan 30
, Pearson Vanguard
and Newport 30
also fit your needs.
There are alot of boats in your price range that meet the criteria you have. It would help if you said what area of the country you sail and what kind of sailing you intend to do.
If your top budget is $20,000, I would highly recommend you save about $3-4000 of it for doing upgrades, repairs and modifications to the boat...

I'd suggest you go with the smallest boat you can find that fits your needs. Buying the boat is just the beginning of the cash outlay. You need to maintain it as well, and it's expensive to do so properly. Check out the Catalina 27, CS 27, C&C 27, Balboa 26, or similar boats...
My Beneteau just happens to be for sale :)
