1977 Catalina 27'

I an looking at purchasing a 1977 Catalina 27' Dinette version for $1800. This boat has a new 9.8 outboard and bottom paint. Has been sitting in a yard for a year, but is full of roaches and needs throughly cleaned and electronics updated. It also needs some care inside.

My question on this boat is whether the hole on the transom is normal that the engine is mounted to and can be lifted into.

ecgossett-

Send a pm to cruisingdad, who is a catalina resource on this site... It sounds like it has an outboard motor well. That was fairly common on smaller boats in that era.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

That is normal for C-27s of that era, and actually quite handy, if you can stand the looks of it. I really like how the rear cockpit seat closes on top of of it to hide the well and the motor. $1,800 is cheap for a 1977. Be sure there is not some problem hiding from you.
