Catalina 34

Sorry to add another "what do you think about X" to the forum, but i was wondering what informed peoples' opinions regarding a 1987 Catalina 34 are.

I had been shopping/waiting for a production cruiser, something about 5-10 years newer and 2-4 feet longer than this, but this opportunity presents itself and the money saved could go in to some really nice upgrades. It looks fine. i do not yet have the benefit of a survey. the engine has been rebuilt.

Somebody tell my why i shouldn't (should) consider this.

thanks

Hi,

If you have been shopping for that newer/larger boat then you really
want that newer/larger boat.

Stick with what you want. Not the great deal.
I know this from what I thought was a great deal on a Beneteau 373.
I posted my story about it on this forum.

Again get what you want!

I sail a 2004 Catalina 34 and love the boat. I have also sailed on some of the older boats as well. Mine is #1679 and Catalina has made almost 2000 of them. Must be something good about them.It really depends on where and what you want the boat for. It is a great coastal cruiser.
For more information than you will ever want go to The Catalina 34 International Association and you will find it. This is the owners group for Catalina 34's. Very active and every little nuance is discussed including the fixes. Great resourse. There are lot of active sailors with some of the original boats on this site as well.
