Ericson 39 vs. Formosa/CT 41

Hi,
we are looking for a cheaper boat and our search has come up with these two. We've been able to find a lot on Formosa/CT 41, but still are not quite sure about Ericson. What are the alternatives?
What reason would you give to choose Ericson over Formosa/CT 41 (well maintained, the typical problems resolved)?

Top of our list has:
- low maintanance (or possibility of DIY)
- liveaboard up to 6 people, most of the time only one couple
- don't need speed, need safety
- (sub-)tropics, mostly anchor

From what we've been able to find, Ericson seems to be better in light winds. How about heavy weather, where Formosa/CT seems to perform very well.
I suppose there is more storage space on Formosa.
