Cal '36?

First off, Hello! I'll work on an introduction later, I'm not good at writing about myself. I do have a question, I found a boat for sale, advertised as a Cal 36, I haven't been able to find much information on the design. And, oddly enough, most of the pictures I find online of "36 Cal's" look different. (I'll include pictures below) this one seems to have a raised cabin, which is absent on other models.

Here goes, is this a Lapworth design? I am planning to use it as a live-aboard in Jacksonville, FL (I am currently in Islamorada), is it a good liveaboard? Fin Keel or full? What would be a reasonable price for this boat? The boat has a Perkins 4-108 with less than 65 hrs, but that's about all I know about it. I just want general information and opinions on the boat. Thanks!

Sure looks like one! The pilot house looking bit is definitely not the norm though.

There are some good pictures here of the underbody, and one in particular which is from the opposite angle to what you show and it is clear from this one that they are fundamentally the same.

Thanks for the link, I actually looked at that page while researching this boat. I found a couple other useful Cal pages as well, calyachts.com and Sailing older Cal Yachts homepage both of which were interesting and informative, I was just looking for more specific experiences with this boat. Also, is there any difference between a "Cal 36" and a "Cal Cruising 36" ?

Little about me, I live and work in Islamorada, I work for a dive operator down here, Divemaster, I worked for a while as the DM and 2nd Mate on a 60 Gaff-Rigged Schooner set-up for a live-aboard dive operation. Been on the water for a few years, sail and power, but this would be my first boat. I sent the owner a list of questions about the boat and am awaiting a reply. I asked about the hull/paint, rigging, sails, keel, draft/beam, year, V-drive, and if it's been hauled/surveyed recently. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I buy.

Here are some small low-res shots of the boat I worked on for a while:

I think you should get alot of feedback on the forums. I was staioned in Key West on a USCGC back in the mid 80's. I love the keys and will return soon, I hope. Meanwhile, Google and do the ask.com on your inquiry, there should be some info out there on the web. Welcome fellow sailor!

SimonV will become famous soon enough
I think it looks more like an Islander 36 FreePort, but they are both from the same era.
