It is actually a compression post. A sampson post is traditionally a very strong cleat point on the forward deck that is used for attaching the anchor or mooring rode. Boats designed for towing can also have a samson post on the aft deck. It's nothing to do with the standing rig.

SD - You reply basically the same each time an old thread is revived. My question is WHY? This (revived) thread was up to page 3 when I wrote this. It appears there has been quite a bit of discussion on it. I would think this site will die a quick death if EVERYONE that has a question only does a search, reads what is posted, then goes away without commenting or seeking comment from others. About the only new posts left will be in "AFOC" and "What place this is"...

Just my opinion. (Now, to go find old threads to revive...JUST KIDDING!)

Wannafish,
It's just a sore point with the Dog and might have reached the fetish stage of development. (g) We did have a problem awhile back with old threads being revived where the guy was looking for a sunfish, three years ago! Dog brings far more to the table than most, for which we are grateful, and so we tolerate some of his little idiosyncrocies. You're correct on this thread though, a point Dog surely realizes now. He's cool.

Why do people care if you resurrect an old thread?? Adding info to a thread is always good IMHO...
I use the search, pull up a thread and read it. Who cares how old it is, info is info!
