Bristol 34/Tartan 34/Luders 33

I am looking to up-size (go figure) from my Bristol 29 for cruising with the family. Mostly coastal cruising on the east coast. Chesapeake bay up to maine and down to Florida. i have sort of zeroed in on the Bristol, Tartan and Allied Luders as being "classic" designs that are built really well and look good. Can you salty dogs (and the fresh water ones too) give me any info relative to these?

Thanks,
Freeman

If you are on the Chesapeake I would rule out the Luders 33 which is a real dog in light air and is not very good in stronger winds. Both the Tartan and Bristol have more modern keel and rudder configurations offering lighter helm loads, better tracking and better light air performance.

another boat to consider

granted, this suggestion does not come w/o a certain bias..give some thought to a Sabre 34 w/ K/CB configuration. if you are a gunkholer, this shortened draft might come in handy a time or three. they are well made (as are your other choices and sail nicely on all points of sail).
my sis has a 34 and i have a 30 and enjoy sailing on the bay on hers or mine.

The TARTAN!

(Go figure)

I looked at Sabres, but they seem to be above my price point based on their age, I guess. Good lookin boats though! The Tartan really has my eye. I really like the large quarter berth to port, and the keel/centerboard configuration. Are there any particular problems associated with the Tartans that I should look for?
Thanks,
Freeman
