Smile 04 C250 or 94 C270?

I was wondering if anyone with a Catalina 2004 250 could offer any info as to how they like the boat. I am also looking at a 1994 Catalina 270, with all the obvious add on's of a used boat. This will be my first boat, and it will mostly be used on the Delaware River, and Bay areas to the south.

The prices between the two are a few thousand apart, but I would like some input as to what other owners, or experienced sailors have to say. Is buying a 10 yr old 1994 Catalina 270 an issue? Or would I be better off buying the 2004, still used, but newer?

Thanks!

Mark-

A lot of it depends on how well each boat was maintained. I've seen two year old boats that were in rotten shape and 30 year old ones that were almost mint.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Sailormann will become famous soon enough
Buy the one that DOESN'T have water ballast. Don't worry about the age. The 10 year old boat will probably not depreciate too much more if you take good care of it. The newer boat will probably drop a bit more in value until it's about - wait for it - 10 years old

Sailormann and Sailingdog,
Thanks for your input. I think I'm going with the 94 270 as long as it surveys out ok.
Thanks again!
