d/e ossa prices

Hi all,

I never noticed anyone posting a cost for the OSSA stuff....so here's what they sent me. This is from late last fall/early winter 2006.

Here is some pricing for you:

25 kW OSSA Powerlite genset - $27,990
The engine we had planned for the 50 kW genset is being discontinued, so we have chosen not to market our inventory. This will be replaced by an approximately 75 kW genset, but I don't have full details yet, and I don't expect it to be available until the 3rd quarter 2007.

The 20 hp motor is $15,995, and the 35 hp motor is $17,995.

The can bus cost will just be the cost for the wiring and connectors.

A helm station, including touch screen display and throttle(s) to control the motor(s) is $1,395.

The power distribution system, including a shore power rectifier is $1,645 for one motor and $1,785 for two, plus the cost of the circuit breakers required.

best - Jay

Having experienced an Electric motor on a 40ish monohull during a delivery a few years back (sure more development since then has reaped dividends), A few points to consider (based on problems encountered) if you want to use for cruising and even one point for daysailing*
1) Engine Power & Prop Selection* - the boat we were on had trouble motoring into headwinds & waves
2) Generator Match / Tuning - Do You have the right size to respond to engine / battery loads along with other electric demands?
3) High End Controller - Able to manage the whole picture of power use + supply (gen set & prop) without constant manual intervention / monitoring
4) Battery Bank - Do you have the right size & type to match the other components.
Seems like the more recent trend is away from battery banks and toward constant running generators.
