I can only add one thing to this conversation that might be considered constructive. BOAT = Nickle and dimed to death no matter what year it was made.
The old saying is, a Boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into. The bigger the boat the more you pour in.

Dav-O, there were many good points in the posts above. My 20 yr old Universal on my Tartan keeps chuggin and like they''ve said, hours are only one indicator. I happen to like the cost/benefits of an older well-found boat. Please do not rule out classic plastic. If the hull and decks are good and
the engine in reasonable condition, you may dish out a few boat units (1k each) but that might be just a fraction of the base boat cost differential by moving the late 80s to late 90s.
