Ericson 27 vs 32

Does anyone out there trailer their 32 occasionally? I''m thinking of getting either a 27 or a 32 and use it primarily for lake sailing. However, I''d like to take it to the coast and sail it in the Gulf a couple of times a year. I''m only four hours away.

What are your opinions regarding the 27 vs the 32? I''ve found some pretty cheap 32s which seem in fair condition, but also some 27s in nice condition for the same amount of money, but usually less than the 32s in most cases (<$17k). Of course I haven''t seen any 32s lately in Texas, but mostly in CA and FL. Having it moved might be too prohibitive given the price of the boat. However there are a number of 27s on the market here in Texas. Thanks in advance.

Neither are really trailerable in the traditional sense. With a custom built trailer and a heavy duty towing vehicle you might be able to transport the 27.

The 32 was a lot more boat in all ways although the wheel steered versions have a very strange racing oriented cockpit that makes getting to and from the wheel a major pain in the butt.

Both were pretty good boats in their day. Other choices in that price range and of equal quality would be Rangers, and Cals and of slightly better quality would be C&C''s and Tartans.
