Tell me about your ComPac I think I want 1

I know there must be plenty of ComPac owners out there . I am looking very seriously at the 23 or 25 trailerable cruisers. Ive got two small kids 1 and 3 yr olds and my wee 15'6" Bristol daysailor is not suitable for them . Its fine for me and the admiral but it would be nice to get the whole family out sailing. The reason for trailering these days, is our location . Lake Champlain VT, we only get a 6 month sailing season up here , and its crowded at the marinas and mooring feilds,so I want to avoid getting another boat that has to be hauled out and splashed every year.ComPac seems to be the obvious choice . So please tell me some war stories , what you love and hate about your boat , why and/or why not to go ComPac . Im also a fan or the Herreshoff Eagle but that seems a little cramped for the 4 of us . The WestWrightPotter also seems nice but again cramped.Your thoughts please

Paul

Hmm... Compaqs are great... The first one I had was a luggable suitcase sized one... However the quality of the machines has gone down since HP bought them out. Oh, wait... you mean Compac sailboats...not computers....

While I don't own a Compac sailboat, I've sailed on them a few times. From what I've seen they're nice, solid little boats. There are several Compac owners, who would probably be willing to discuss the boat with you over at this website.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

They were heavy, and exceptionally tough... My brother dropped mine off a table while it was running...and it didn't even blink. Made a hell of a loud bang though.

The suitcase looked a lot like a sewing machine cover, as I recall.

Yes, and the keyboard was the base/cover, and closed off the screen and disk drives. Had a big padded handle to cart it around by... weighed about 40 lbs. or so IIRC. The portable computers have sure come a long way from then.
