If the boat has inverted long enough for you to need the escape hatch...you're probably going to sink....

WOW, he tried mounting an outboard there and messed it up. (Don't anyone say he might have been a newbie know-it-all...).

Anyway, now its a real mess because there's no where to mount an outboard without properly re-building the stern. This project took a big bite out of the value of the boat, I wonder what the insurance company said. Yikes.

That cut out looks too good to be a hack job to me. I don't know much about the various model Lancers...but could that simply be a factory outboard well since everything is above the waterline and there is a drain hole? That would allow for control of the outboard from inside the cockpit. I know a lot of boats have an internal "well" for an outboard...could this simply be a variation of that concept mis-labled by a seller as an escape hatch?
