Endeavour

Folks,

I am looking at a gently used '84 Endeavour 33 thats in my boat yard. Anyone with experience of this boat? I am researching owners forums etc, but I am interested in your input. Is it a good sailor? It appears pretty robust, rather beamy, lost of room for that length boat. Any input is welcome.

I'm curious about Endeavours as well. I kind of had my eye on a 42' that was awful pretty, but somewhat inexpensive for a boat of it's size, I thought. I was wondering about their quality.

Reluctant to say this and hope no one takes offense - I have NO personal experience with these boats and have set foot in them only once in my life so my opinion can and should be considered as almost meaningless BUT I did make an offer on one a few years ago which appeared to be in excellent condition. When I called my surveyor to schedule the inspection, he told me he wouldn't do it and expressed a number of reasons why. For fear of creating an argument with someone, if you'd like his explantion, PM me. I'd be glad to give you his name/number so you can discuss his experience directly and make you own judgement.

Interesting, I had the same experience in CT with a surveyor from RI (will go unnamed) when I put an offer in on an Irwin Citation 34'. Long and the short of it...it saved me over $15K!

Granted, the Irwin 34's and the Endeavor 33's are very different boats and though they share a similar design, the construction and laying of the fiberglass hull in particular are apples and oranges if memory serves me correctly. A friend of mine purchased an Irwin 32' and has nothing but praise for the boat. Other than a few issues with the cabinetry (cosmetic only), she appears to be a good little sailer and a solid boat.

The 33's have a nice roomy layout and would seem to me to be a nice coastal cruiser if that is what you intend to use it for.

I sailed one 2 weeks ago. E33. one of my YC members has it. Sails real nice! I would say it's not a light air boat though. The interior is very traditional looking, vee berth is very small.

I've had an Endeavour 35 for 1 year. I converted from a power boat. CHECK the mast step. They are steel and can be a problem. The ports are cheap but the company that makes them is still in business. I really don't have anything to compare it to as far as sailing characteristics. The only other thing I have sailed are lake boats. I can, as a rookie, sail it by myself on a reasonable day. Lots of room down below.

Ive seen several 32's here in South Florida recently...some quite inexpensive....till ya go look at them and see the rotten chain plates.
