You have to ask yourself if you really want to maintain all that wood.

I agree with Kanaumpua; that boat has a ton of exterior teak to maintain. Don't get me wrong, it looks great and is somewhat of a unique and rare feature on a 32', but it does add maintainence. I personally love teak decks and would prefer them over fiberglass nonskid.

Also, older Wauqiez boats (particularly the Centurian) are rare in the States. I'm not sure if that's a plus or a minus. The current bid is $10k, which would obviously be a steal but I suspect it will end up somewhere in the $25-$35k range.

My wife and I went and looked at that boat when it was on ebay a month ago. The teak is in bad shape, the fore and side decks are very soft, and the interior sole is shot. I told the owner's rep about the soft decks but apparently, that did not make it into the description this time around. Shame on them.

It is not worth anything near 10k, IMHO.

Run away...

witzgall........thank you for this post. I was looking at this vessel also. Usually if it looks too good to be true it is. I do realize that every now and then one does run onto a real steal but rarely. However it should be a good buyers market at the present time....thanks again for the first hand info makes this list PRICELESS

Actually this is a pretty neat boat. It is an early IOR design similar to the RORC era Contessa 32. This one is loaded with neat gear and seems like a good bargain crfuiser in many ways. Although they don't mention it, the drawings show a trim tab on the back of the keel which is a great way of balancing the helm and improving windward performance.

You can figure that you will have to remove the teak decks and rework the fiberglass decks below and perhaps rebuild the cabin sole. Its a big job but something a tallented amatuer could handle. If you were handy this is probably a good deal at $12-14K, otherwise probably not. Fixed up, as equipped, the boat is probably worth something in the low $20K range.

Volvo engines of that period are a pain in the butt.

Actually, this boat has also been on craigslist, asking $14, though it strikes me as questionable when someone, not a broker, is selling a boat that belongs to someone else. Further, that someone is not even in the same state as the boat. Look carefully...
