that's a smile alright - but as another posted, the combination of it being failry "open" and larger then usual and deeper into the keel, in combination with the "cutting" (there can be NO good reason for that other then repair or cutting clean some damage?

Even is there was some "fuddy duddy" Previous Owner project you have to wonder what other jems that guy has inflicted on the boat?

Plenty of 30' Catalina's in the sea.
