Opinion on 40 Endeavour & Price

Thoughts on this boat and its price. I like the layout but it seems that boat is priced $30,000 over the market. They are bragging about refits done in 1996, if the equipment was worn out at 12 years old and its been 11 years since the refit does this mean all the repaired items are shot again?

Thanks,

I own a 81 40' Endeavour. I agree that the $95K they are asking is a bit much. One of the main problems with the old Endeavours is the fuel tank. They tend to corrode and must be replaced. (No trivial task). Be sure to check that out.

Thought I would bump this. I will be in St Thomas on Friday and plan to look at the boat. Just curious if anyone has any other info.

Engcon, one of the upgrades that they were bragging about in the add was a new alluminum fuel tak in 1996.

That might be one advantage of buying an older boat that has "known, common" problems; if the boat has been loved and cared for the problem is likely to have been addressed at one point or another.

BTW, is that a wind vane on the back? That usually indicates at least an intention of extended, or even blue-water cruising. I didn't think Endeavors were typically used in that manner.

I have a 1982 E40 also and have no problem with "bluewater" aspects of a large ENDEAVOUR. I've had few problems with High Cotton and feel very safe and secure with 25,000lbs......
planning another cruise to the Caribean next year for probably at least 6 months. VERY comfortable, roomy boat. Just as for any boat, get a good survey and go from there.
Good Luck, keep us posted!

Talking Endeavour 37

Ive owned a 1981 endeavour 37 for a few years now and I can say its a solid heavy boat. Mine is one of the few tall cutters blan B, from the paperwork that came with the boat, the mast is a few feet taller and the displacement is about 2500 lb more..., it has a bow spirt with an extra large genoa. I dont have a stay sail but it has the notches in the mast for one... down below It has 2 private berths. the rear berth even has a small sink. Mine was upgraded before I bought it and from the looks of it, it was done in late 90's. Theres an extra tank for the head to total about 30 gal holding capacity. It also has a GPS with Radar. outside, on the stern theres a near new flemming wind vane, auto piolot and nice windlass with 300 ft of bbb chain... the motor is a Perkins and it always has started on the first shot. For battery power I have 2 banks one with 2 huge golf cart batteries and the other which is used as the starting bank has 4-6 volt batteries and a 12 volt car battery. I have the motor oil replaced every 6 months since I use her at least a few times a month. all and all I am very happy with her. althought she does have a little weather healm. oh, I forgot to mention that I just put in a new head to keep the Girl Friend happy...any other comments on these boats would be great!

Peteramc do you realize this post is over two months old and Captainjay was intending to look at this boat around Thanksgiving? I do not know the history of this particular boat but many local boats were refitted/upgraded in 1995/1996 because of a mean lady who went by the name of Hurricane Marilyn. This may or may not be the reason for the timing of the upgrades, but if the vessel was here during that storm, there is a very good chance it suffered some damage.

I realize this is not a current post......

I just had to add my .02 cents worth since I own a 1982 E40.....

NO REGRETS..... my fuel tanks have not been replaced, but I had them thoroughly inspected last year and no problems.....

HEAVY cruiser (25,000lbs), VERY comfortable, my boat came totally LOADED,
generator, roller-furling, two a/c units, new electric winches, new sails and a ton of other new items.....

Would I buy an ENDEAVOUR ??? YES!

I realize 4 years have gone by, but I'm just wondering if you ever viewed or bought that Endeavour 40 in St, Thomas since she is still for sale.
Thank you.

CaptJay and I became friends since this post was made. He did not buy the vessel and went to the dark side...he has a power boat. We are still friends despite his bad decision. You are correct, it is still for sale.
