codmander-

Based on my experience with Kelley's Marine services—the listing broker for the boat, I would doubt that the listing is anywhere near accurate. While I do not have direct experience with their brokerage service, I have worked with them once.

I asked them to winterize my boat last year, since I was not able to do so myself. They left my boat unlocked and removed the batteries from my boat. When I asked where my batteries were, they said that they had removed them for winter servicing, which I had not requested. When they returned the batteries, they did not re-connect the batteries to the electrical system. Also, they had verbally promised to scribe a new waterline on the boat, and did not do so, even though the price I was quoted included that service.

This was dealing directly with John Kelley, the owner of the company. Furthermore, almost everyone I know who has had dealings with his company has refused to use them for anything further, and many have serious complaints about double billing, billing being much higher than the amount quoted, etc.

Finally, most of their boats are not well maintained and many are not in anything close to the advertised condition.

If you do decide to look at the boat, you really should get anything they say in writing or don't bother. The owner's word isn't worth ****... YMMV.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

thanks for the reply --dealers are about 1 thing--$-- I certainly would'nt go into buying a boat blind I've been a boat owner for 30 years and wouldnt go to look at 1 without my rubber mallet--- --- I've been waiting to sell my fishing boat for the sail -- wife and I want to go from here cape cod- to panama maybe futher so I'm looking for somthing 30 ft or over that I can depend on to get me there rather a full keel if for no other reason rudder and prop somewhat protected so I got my feelers out and scanning --- boats are cheap right now ever since -katrina they got stacked up like corkwood down south and a lot of them have been redone and are now out there on the market---- may the buyer beware

Well, I don't mind a guy making money for an honest living...but that was pretty much the problem...if I hadn't gone back to the boat and inspected it after getting out of the hospital, Kelley's Marine would have charged me for storing and maintaining the AGM batteries off of my boat. What's even worse, is that they didn't even winterize or inspect the two T105 wet-cell golf cart batteries that are on the boat.... and didn't realize they were even there. F#cking morons and basically unethical shysters IMHO.

Codmander,

I own the 1973 Cape Cod Blue Chip that you have written about. She is "wicked sturdy" but not shallow. Her draft is over 4 feet, which is deep for a full keel vessel. She is stiff with a sailing line of about 15 degrees and she makes little leeway. The vessel is a very well built (consider the reputaion of Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co.). In further comment regarding her design, she is a scaled up version of the Herreshoff 12 1/2 or Bullseye hull from the rudder post forward. Any sailor has little doubt of the sailing qualities and capabilities of a vessel based on one of Captain Nat Herreshoff's designs. IMHO (based upon more years of sailing than I care to admit to), she is a vessel well capable of long cruises as well as blue water sailing. Also, I would not let anyone other than a surveyor near the hull with a "rubber malet".

In short, you may well be better off fishing with your power boat.

I've gone by and seen your boat several times - always liked the blue chip. I might be interested in her. I've spoken to Ty and Gary a number of times - actually made a tentative offer, but didn't hear from them which I took as a "no". Quite frankly I'm torn between your boat and a similar designed but smaller H-26 (not the CCSB version) - I'm having that hull surveyed in a few weeks. If it does not pan out I'd like to talk with you and see if we can come to a deal on the Blue Chip.
