It depends on how long the boat is in the state after you purchase it.
Most states have a limit on how long a "foreign" boat can stay before having to pay tax.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

All you don't want to know about sales and use tax in Florida was explored in this thread http://www.sailnet.com/forums/showth...ht=florida+tax

Looks like the use tax period for a visitor is 90 days.

pay, pay and pay more. Sigh.

camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough
If you leave the state within 90 days of purchase you do not owe either sales or use tax in FL...but you will need to pay tax bringing it back in to Canada as I am sure you know.
