Want!

For your viewing pleasure.

Bidding on eBay currently at $151k. (Paging TrueBlue....) What's not to love? A steel topsail schooner! With a centerboard, fer crying out loud! Think of the gunkholing possibilities. A fully-stocked bar. AND it hosted the 2005 Miss USA Pageant! Voted Best Steel Topsail Schooner Reproduction of 1985 (not really, but it could have done.)

Hey Wombat -- I can totally see you pottering around the Whitsundays in this baby. You buy it, I'll deliver it. Or you hardcore PHRF racers -- think of the terror you'd inspire at mark roundings!

If it came with a few of the Miss USA 2005 contestants to crew it, I'd think it'd sell much faster.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

That's the purpose of the centerboard, you see. Watching those swim-suited young ladies cranking away at the keel winch .... makes the eyes tear up just thinking about it.

Yes, very sad to see the Clipper City for sale this way. I attended several events on her down through the years and also saw her on the Patapsco and bay quite often. Would be nice for someone local to buy her.

Zanshin is on a distinguished road
That is exactly in the price range I am looking at, plus it has the LWL and interior room I crave. I wonder how tough it would be to set her up for singlehanding?

Mitch, re Zanshin's question: What sort of crew would Clipper City require? Guessing a minimum twelve pretty skilled people? Has it done much actual sailing, or is it a dock queen pretty strictly? Looks set up for travel, but the operational costs must be staggering. Hope whoever buys it has plans beyond "White Elephant Wedding Chapel."

Bob -- I don't know how many crew it took to sail her, but she does sail pretty well. I was never on her underway unfortunately. She sailed in the Great Schooner Race hedl each October here on the Chesapeake and I think she held her own in that race.

I can just see me and the Wombat Ms swanning about the reef in that old girl. Err on second thoughts maybe not.

I tell you what though, lets do a deal. I'll buy it, you maintain it and we can both sail it . Sounds fair ??

Actually ... yes. Lessee. My present life consists of:

1) Sanding and finishing wood.
2) Maintenance and improvement of dwelling.
3) Spending money on sailboats; fixing sailboats.
4) Thinking about sailing.

Can't see how serving as MaxiWomboat's Designated Lackey would change much. Give me a few cubic feet by the anchor locker to nest in and I'm there. Also I'm handy aloft and eat only cheese and bread. Good cook, but I won't do bottom work.

Just stay away from the bucket of water with the stick atop of it...
