Last week I went down to Long Island on business. It was a beautiful day, so I took my motorcycle to the New London to Orient Point Ferry. At the dock I struck up a conversation with a guy that turned out to be a surveyor! I described the over-glassed bilge that I observed, and he knew right away what had most likely happened

.
"That boat's been grounded," he said. "Usually there's some oil canning of the hull when this happens, and this is a common way to patch it."
Shortly after the original post, I queried the broker about the patch on the port side deck. He admitted that this boat had been through Hurricane Bob, and sustained some "minor damage."
Now that I think about it, I remember that when I inspected the boat, I was curious about why the door to the head didn't seem to close quite right. I didn't think it serious until I read Casey's book, which explains that bulkhead doors that don't close true are indications of impact knocking the bulkhead out of square. As I remember, Casey states that frequently the most severe damage is on the opposite side of the impact, as the impact effectively knocks the entire boat out of alignment.
I though that you'd want to know...
