Thoughts on the Mariner 19

I have sold my first boat and am buying my second boat A 1972 O'day Mariner 19 (at least until something better comes along this week) it's in better shape than my Siren, a little larger, a lot heavier, should be more comfortable while offering better performance right? The main gripe with my Siren was the shallow cockpit and the very tender feel of it. It sure was a great boat to learn on though, but I got tires of the sore ass and the ducking under the boom, and the really crappy jib furler. If I were to keep the boat this year I would have just ditched it and hanked it on the forestay, at least then I could get it tight.

I'm still keeping my eye out for my 3rd boat (see my trailerable pocket cruiser thread) I have that narrowed down to a few models, but if I like the Mariner I might just keep it for awhile.

The Mariner is a cruising version of the Rhodes 19, one of the great one design racers of the 1960s and 1970s. Still a lot around and sailing. You should have a good time with the Mariner.

Ditto that...I had a lot of fun on one in decades past. Enjoy!

I learned on Rhodes 19's and a friend owned a Mariner. Good choice. You'll have fun.

If I remember correctly, there were both keel and ballasted centerboard models ... which did you get?

It's a centerboard model, I would love to get a keel model, we plan on keeping our boat at a slip this year anyway.
