Pearson Electra

Looking for just about any advice/thoughts out there about Pearson Electras. One has caught my eye. So far as I can tell, it has a sturdy hull (minus some spider cracks), a serviceable mast, working rudder, most of the blocks in good condition, but no galley, a mainsail that needs replacing, and it's in need of a lot of general maintenance (needs to be hauled out and painted, etc.).

Seller is asking $2,500 and I think I would need to put another $1,200 into it right away. I love the boat, but don't know if it's worth it. Anyone have experience with them, either good or bad?

I am a former owner of an Ensign, which is a similar Pearson, and we loved the boat. You might be able to talk him down a bit. Recall that every one of these boats was built in 1965 or before.

If you have any interest in racing somewhere down the line, I can tell you that there is an Electra that races non-spin in our local fleet and finishes near the top consistently so I have concluded that it has a very fair PHRF rating (although I am sure it is also well-sailed in this case).
