Old catamarans

Two questions please. First, are old (60-early 70''s) catamarans overbuilt like monohulls of same vintage? Second, what should I look for in a pre-survey inspection that''s different from a mono? My focus right now is on an Iroquois cat.

No, they were not over built in any real sense. There was comparatively little understanding of the forces at work in Cats in the 1960''s and early 1970''s. It was not unusual to see them in for pretty serious repairs in those days. The big issues seemed to be the connections between the cross structure and hulls.
