Nantucket island 33

I'm thinking on buying one and would like any info that anyone has on this boat.
What were they worth new? How do they sail. Are they too heavy ? Is there an owners web site?

Design by Peter Cole who is renowned for at least two boats the Cole 43 and the East Coast 31 plus one America's Cup contender "Steak and Kidney". The Nantucket 33 is a strange beast. Given all that freeboard and a fairly modest rig they still sail quite well and have huge space below for a 33'er. On the other hand most people would admit that all that space comes at a price and the 33 is not the prettiest boat you will ever clap eyes on The cockpit is not the most sheltered you will ever find.

Don't know where you are, but in Australia an N33 would likely bring in around $60.000 in good condition. I have no idea how much they were new.

Found this community while searching for information on these boats. We have just purchased one in Annapolis MD. This boat has quite a history hsving been sold originally in England, then re sold to Canadain cruisers who sailed it around the med, and then to the Carribean.

We would like to coorespond with others who know of these boats or have one to trade ideas/information. We plan to refit the boat and sail it back to our home port of Mahone Bay Nova Scotia.

I saw some one pulling a really a nice looking boat out of the water at Winter Island in Salem, MA a few weeks back. I'm pretty sure he said it was a Norwalk Island Sharpie but I could be remembering it wrong. I think it was a 26'

I googled it but got a whole bunch of various hits on everything from 18' kits to 29'.

Was wondering if anyone knew anything about these. Are they still in production? Are they really a kit boat (I'm probably not the guy to build a boat from a kit, but I can wire it up if someone else does :-)
