Sad Day

Boats in Florida I'm in Colorado. Wife is not interested in cruising any more. Must be time to sell her . Does anybody out there have any ideas where the best place to base a ready to cruise 50' sailboat for a quick fair sale.
Sad in Colorado,
Randy

Latestcaper-

shouldn't post multiple threads on the same topic. As for selling, sorry to hear that... but this isn't exactly a good time to sell... so get a broker to list her and keep your fingers crossed. High-end luxury items, like a 50' sailboat, aren't exactly flying off the shelves at the moment.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Dawg...the other post was deleted. This is a corrected version.

Randy...I would think that Miami Ft. Lauderdale would be a mch etter pace to sell than Texas....more boats and more buyers and BOAT shows.

Fort Lauderdale is the place to have your boat if you want to sell it.

That being said, you're going to take a huge hit trying to sell right now. All that's out there are bottom feeders. I know. I've spent the last year throwing them off our boat.

If you can afford to hang on, do it. If you can't, plan on not getting much more than 1/2 to 2/3 of what you think the boat is worth. Them's the facts.

beware of brokers that promise to maintain your boat while in their care. many will charge you but not do anything! hire a separate company with a good rep to do the work
Some brokers who sell new will use your boat only as a lure to sell the new boats they must move.
good luck finding a reputable broker in S Fla!

If your boat is in great shape and reasonably priced, it will sell at a decent price. There are buyers out there but they know it's a buyers market and will not generally overpay. But they have looked over all the trash and are waiting for a good boat to show up. Trashy boats are a dime a dozen and you will suffer a big reduction if it's in poor shape. You probably won't see too much action until late fall after hurricane season.

I would suggest Annapolis. Try Rich Kahn at the Annapolis Sailyard or Bernie at Rogue Wave Yacht Sales. Both these brokers specialize in cruising sailboats. Rich has sold two boats for me and sold me two boats in the last 8 years. Tell them Special Delivery sent you. As above, their big season is around the Sailboat show in early October. Good luck.
